ISLA has an ambitious and timely remit to strengthen strategic litigation on women’s human rights across the continent particularly in the areas of violence against women, women’s land and property rights and women’s socio economic rights. We believe that for strategic litigation to be successful and ultimately result in social change, it has to be part of a wider campaign strategy. To this end we are keen to engage with organisations working to protect and promote women’s human rights in order to gain an understanding of the pertinent issues in this area and also gain insight into the work that is currently taking place. We hope through this platform we can explore possibilities on how our work can complement each other. Without duplicating ongoing efforts, we are keen to learn if there is a need for an institution like ISLA to be involved in domestic, South African, litigation.
