COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Position Summary

The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA), is a new initiative that uses litigation before national courts and the African human rights systems to advance women’s human rights and sexual rights. ISLA is seeking an intern to provide communications and marketing support the Communications Intern will be primarily dedicated to fulfilling communications and marketing needs for ISLA across the organisation, primarily focusing on website updating, design/layout, and copywriting for various donor relations materials and digital communications.

Essential Duties:

  • Commit to working fifteen to twenty hours per week;
  • Design and lay out flyers and brochures for various programmes;
  •  Act as copywriter for programmes, email communications, newsletter, etc.;
  • Work with printing vendors to obtain quotes and manage printing process, including proofs and approvals;
  • Obtain quotes on projects, as requested by programmes staff;
  • Update web content on ISLA’s website and social media platforms;
  • Offer new promotional ideas for programmes or development-related activities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proficiency in WordPress and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Publisher;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Attention and sensitivity to detail;
  • Ability to organise and manage projects with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to quickly form relationships and build trust among coworkers.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity and experience with Adobe Creative Suite 2 or higher, including Photoshop and InDesign;
  • Familiarity and experience with professional editing software.

Internship Duration:

  • 3 months minimum;
  • 12-15 hours/week.

FUNDRAISING AND DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Position Summary

We are seeking an intern to assist with a wide range of fundraising projects, with a focus on grant research and preparation. The Fundraising and Development Intern will support our work of by engaging in activities that further the mission and development of the organisation.

Essential Duties:

  • Commit to working fifteen to twenty hours per week;
  • Maintain knowledge of the organisation and a personal commitment to its goals and objectives;
  • Assist with the production of donor materials and ongoing correspondence;
  • Conduct prospect research;
  • Develop and update donor database;
  • Carrying out grant research and assist with preparing proposal packages;
  • Send letters of inquiry to prospective grant-making organisations and foundations;
  • Prepare proposals and grant applications that display excellent writing and editing skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Attention and sensitivity to detail;
  • Ability to organise and manage projects with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to quickly form relationships and build trust among coworkers;

Internship Duration:

LEGAL RESEARCH INTERN

Position Summary

We are seeking a Legal Research Intern to assist with conducting research and compiling summaries of cases to develop a case law database.

Essential Duties:

  • Commit to working fifteen to twenty hours per week;
  • Work closely with our lawyers to conduct legal research on our thematic areas of expertise;
  • Assist in preparation of training materials and publications;
  • Work with a team of internal and external consultants to develop a database of jurisprudence focusing on ISLA’s thematic areas of work;

Minimum Requirements:

  • LL.M. candidate or final year LL.B;
  • Strong research and organizational skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to think strategically and provide critical analysis and risk assessment;
  • Ability to juggle a varied and demanding workload and to manage competing priorities and deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
  • Strong word processing and excel skills are a plus;
  • Internship Duration: 3 months minimum;
  • 12-15 hours/week.
