Gugulethu Makhubo joined ISLA in April 2016 as the Media and Communication Specialist. She uses her marketing and communication knowledge to create engaging content and conversations, that are passion and purpose driven.
Gugulethu studied Publishing at the University of Pretoria. She later completed a Marketing Communications degree at the University of Johannesburg. Her post graduate qualifications include; a Post Diploma in Management, and a Masters degree in Management specialising in Strategic Marketing from the Wits Business School. She also has certificates in Corporate Social Investment and Public Relations.
Her professional journey began at Instant Grass, where she conducted research on local popular culture trends. She later worked as a researcher at Media Tenor and moved into the corporate field as a researcher for KreditInform. Gugulethu then moved into the media industry, where she first worked for Succeed Magazine and later a design agency called DreamStation. In 2009, Gugulethu founded a communications agency, that offers turnkey marketing communication solutions to NGOs and small business. She has worked with national NGOs, in South Africa, and International NGOs, advising teams across the continent.
She is passionate and experienced in Strategic Communications and its impact on service driven institutions. Her experience which extends over 12 years, includes; NGO administration, consulting and support; corporate communications, event management, digital media, PR, internal marketing, and capacity strengthening.
