Human Resource Manager

Nomini Lisa Marala joined the ISLA in October 2021 as the Human Resources Manager.

Nomini is a registered Human Resources Practitioner by the South African Board of Personnel Practitioner (SABPP), a member of the Institute in Personnel Management (IPM), a member of the Black Management Forum (BMF) and is a Certificate Director by the Institute of Board of Directors (IoDSA).

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Human Resources (HR) Management from the University of South Africa, a National Diploma in HR Management from the University of Johannesburg and a certificate in Management Development Programme from Regent Business School.

Nomini’s career started in the private sector as a Recruitment Specialist at various Recruitment Media Companies and progressed to ESKOM focusing on broader Human Resources disciplines. She then joined Talent and Business Development Services, a HR Consulting Agency as a Senior HR Consultant working closely with National Government Departments in providing talent management services.

In 2014, she moved to an NGO sector and worked at USAID Funded NGO, Childline as the Human Resources Manager and was responsible to lead the HR function and establishing an HR Department. She later joined international NGOs including Pact South Africa and University Research Company that both specialise in Capacity Development and Strengthening of government systems to respond better to social needs of South Africans. She successfully implemented major HR Projects including developing HR Policies, Conducting Skills Audit, Salary Benchmarking, Designing Salary Scales, Conducting Employee Engagement Surveys, implementing Health & Wellness Programs, Managing Employee Relations, Change Management, leading large-scale Recruitment & Selection processes and managing Retrenchment Process to mention but a few.

Nomini is passionate about employee well-being in the workplace including promotion of diversity, fairness, addressing imbalances through implementing various mechanisms to ensure that employees perform at their optimum level to support the objectives of the organisation. She is also a trained Volunteer for Career Counselling at Unisa guiding students on deciding on suitable career choices.

Nomini’s interests include Mentoring, Outdoor Walking, Interior Decorating, Cooking and Public Speaking.
