
Nonhlanhla Mokwena

Nonhlanhla Mokwena (preferred name Nhlanhla) is currently the Deputy Chief of Party for Gender Based Violence (GBV) at the Centre for Communication Impact. She is the former Executive Director of People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) where she served in this position for nine years. Nhlanhla holds a B.A Hons Degree in Social Work as well as a Training and Development Certificate, both from the University of South Africa. She also has a MPhil in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa from the University of Pretoria.
Nhlanhla has worked in the GBV-NPO sector for most of her professional life. She previously worked as a grant officer at the Department of Social Development and the National Lotteries Commission. Her passion is social justice for women and girls. Women’s rights remains a cause that is close to her heart, and she is hopeful that, one day, gender equality will be achieved.
