Zeenat Sujee

Zeenat Sujee is an attorney in South Africa and currently employed at the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa, based in the Women’s socio-economic rights thematic area. She completed her LLB and LLM at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She practiced as an attorney at the Legal Resources Centre and Centre for Applied Legal Studies in Johannesburg where she litigated in areas relating to the right to access to housing, access to water, sanitation and electricity and the right to health. She has also done work relating to gender issues which include the adverse impacts of the lack of adequate housing and sanitation on women and girl learners in schools. This prompted her to complete her dissertation on feminist approaches in housing cases in South Africa. Zeenat was a law researcher at the Constitutional Court of South Africa. In 2020, she was the inaugural Stephen Ellmann Judicial Fellow at New York Law School and one of four inaugural Cameron Schrier Research Fellows at the Southern Centre for Inequality Studies at Wits University.
