SUMMARY:Launch – ISLA Guide Series Trafficking Guide
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nISLA is launching the first in its guide series. \nGuides provide over all information that ISLA partners need when approaching an issue within a specific thematic area. The content of the guides is enough to get the network lawyer started in the case development process and to direct and influence the conceptualisation of potential cases. \nThe guide examines human trafficking as a manifestation of violence against women which lacks adequate victim protections. The purpose of the guide is to provide a comprehensive review of the existing human rights protections\, as well as best practices in victim/survivor protection and assistance when litigating trafficking cases. The guide uses a thematic approach to highlight critical issues to consider when supporting a human trafficking case from a Pan-African\, feminist\, human rights perspective. \nApplication procedure N/A \nApplication Date \n\n\n\n\n\n\nN/A \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact: amorlett@the isla.org

SUMMARY:Launch Article 14 ISLA Manual Series
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nISLA is launching the first publication in its Manual series. ISLA Manuals are designed to provide a complete\, in-depth set of instructions on how to utilise the meaning\, scope and content of a provision (this also includes the state obligations which arise within the scope of each provision). \nThe Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (the Maputo Protocol is the main legal instrument for the protection of the rights of women and girls in Africa. Article 14 of the Maputo Protocol guarantees women’s right to health\, including sexual and reproductive health. Despite these guarantees\, the respect\, promotion\, protection and fulfilment of sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls in Africa remains deficient. \nThe purpose of this manual is to provide guidance to litigators in Africa on litigation based on the provisions of art 14 that can prompt\, inspire and compel successful and sustainable implementation of sexual and reproductive health rights that addresses the social and cultural practices that hinder women and girls’ enjoyment of their sexual and reproductive health and rights in Africa and ensure the non-repetition of violations. \nOutcomes \nPopularising ISLA’s WSER work \nApplication procedure \nApplication Date \nN/A \nFor more information\, please contact amorlett@the isla.org

SUMMARY:Expert Advisory: #MeToo
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nISLA is hosting an Expert Advisory meeting on Legal Responses To Suits Against Victims Of Sexual Violence By The Attackers. \nThe Violence Against Women (VAW) thematic area focuses on using the courts to challenge discriminatory laws and practice that have adverse effects on women’s human rights. ISLA seeks to develop jurisprudence on defences available to women who face legal consequences as result of speaking out about violations. We wish to surface the gendered nature of this use of the laws to silence women. \nOutcomes \nThe participants will leave with a better sense of how to respond to defamation claims\, with a particular focus on anti-Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (anti-SLAPP) lawsuits\, as they serve as a practical defense when survivors allege that the defamation claims brought against them are solely a tool to silence their voices and prevent future survivors from speaking their truth. \nApplication procedure \nThe session is primarily for us and experts have already been identified. \nApplication Date \n\n\n\n\n\n\nN/A \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact: amorlett@the isla.org

SUMMARY:Launch - ISLA Insights - Case Sourcing
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]About the Event:[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][vc_column_text]ISLA is launching its case sourcing report. The report documents ISLA’s theory of change with regards to case sourcing and considers insights from partners. \n\nThe publication interrogates the barriers towards the identification and retention of cases for feminist strategic litigation and proposes strategies towards alleviating these challenges. This interrogation is in response to the dearth of cases for strategic litigation on women’s rights and sexual rights at both national and African regional levels. This dearth of cases stands at odds with the human rights violations witnessed on the continent which disproportionately affects women and sexual minorities. \nThe publication provides a conceptual clarification of feminist strategic litigation. This form of litigation aims to challenge historically gendered exclusion through framing and claiming entitlements under the law towards full realisation of the rights of women in all their diversity as well as sexual minorities. Feminist strategic litigation achieves these objectives through careful consideration of the strategic angle for each case and aims to achieve social change through a multiplicity of processes in and out of court.[/vc_column_text][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]Outcomes[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][vc_column_text]Popularising ISLA’s case Sourcing ToC[/vc_column_text][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]Application procedure[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][vc_column_text]N/A[/vc_column_text][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]Application Date[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][vc_column_text] \n\n\n\n\n\n\nN/A \n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]For more information\, please contact:[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][boc_person name=”Amorlett” title=”” picture=”26479″]amorlett@the isla.org[/boc_person][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_heading]Find out more[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”]Error: Contact form not found. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]About the Event:[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][vc_column_text]ISLA is launching its proof of concept publication. The publication documents the FLN’s journey from ISLA’s inception until and looks forward to the future of the FLN. \n\nThe proof of concept documents the testing of ISLA’s theory of change against some of these approaches to social change and sexual and women’s human rights litigation on the continent. The process of formulating this proof of concept provided an opportunity for us to take stock of our successes\, the challenges that emerge from doing our work and to put forward strategies not only in response to the challenges we faced but also in response to our partner’s experiences.[/vc_column_text][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]Outcomes[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][vc_column_text]Popularising the  ISLA model[/vc_column_text][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]Application procedure[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][vc_column_text]N/A[/vc_column_text][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]Application Date[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][vc_column_text] \n\n\n\n\n\n\nN/A \n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]For more information\, please contact:[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][boc_person name=”Amorlett” title=”” picture=”26479″]amorlett@the isla.org[/boc_person][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row disable_element=”yes”][vc_column width=”1/2″][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]Donor[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][boc_img_carousel autoplay=”yes” loop=”yes” image_ids=”26951″][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][ucaddon_team_card title=”Zandile Mashaba” image=”26490″ link=”http://www.beta.the-isla.org/about-2/zandile_mashaba/” description=”Q29tbXVuaWNhdGlvbnMlMjBNYW5hZ2Vy” uc_fonts_data=”JTdCJTdE”][boc_spacing height=”30px”][boc_heading]Partner institution[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”][boc_img_carousel autoplay=”yes” loop=”yes” image_ids=”26951″][boc_spacing height=”30px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_heading]Find out more[/boc_heading][boc_divider divider_color=”#eeeeee”]Error: Contact form not found.
