Joint Statement: Decision of the African Commission to Reject Observer Status Applications of Three Human Rights Organizations

In response to the African Commission’s unfortunate decision to reject observer status applications by three human rights organizations in its final communique of its 73rd ordinary session, Synergía Initiatives for Human Rights in partnership with the Center for Human Rights (CHR) – University of Pretoria, the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA), PanAfrica ILGA, Amnesty International and Mouvement pour les Libertés Individuelles (MOLI), and PanAfrica ILGA have developed a joint statement to condemn this decision and that threatens the Commission’s ability to promote and protect human rights for all.

The statement is co-sponsored by African Union Watch, Alternative Côte d’Ivoire, Article 19, Civicus, DefendDefenders, Equality Now, Human Rights First Rwanda, Human Rights Watch, Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa, International Service for Human Rights, and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.

En réponse à la décision malheureuse de la Commission africaine de rejeter les demandes de statut d’observateur de trois organisations de défense des droits de l’homme dans son communiqué final de sa 73e session ordinaire, Synergía Initiatives for Human Rights, en partenariat avec le Center for Human Rights (CHR) – University of Pretoria, l’Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA), PanAfrica ILGA, Amnesty International et le Mouvement pour les Libertés Individuelles (MOLI), ont élaboré une déclaration commune pour condamner cette décision qui menace la capacité de la Commission à promouvoir et protéger les droits de l’homme pour tous. 

La déclaration est coparrainée par African Union Watch, Alternative Côte d’Ivoire, Article 19, Civicus, DefendDefenders, Equality Now, Human Rights First Rwanda, Human Rights Watch, Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa, International Service for Human Rights et Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.

Em resposta à infeliz decisão da Comissão Africana de rejeitar pedidos de estatuto de observador por três organizações de direitos humanos no seu comunicado final da sua 73ª sessão ordinária, Synergía Initiatives for Human Rights em parceria com o Centro de Direitos Humanos (CHR) – Universidade de Pretória, a Iniciativa de Contencioso Estratégico em África (ISLA), PanAfrica ILGA, Amnistia Internacional e Mouvement pour les Libertés Individuelles (MOLI), e PanAfrica ILGA desenvolveram uma declaração conjunta para condenar esta decisão e que ameaça a capacidade da Comissão de promover e proteger os direitos humanos para todos.
