Siphokazi Mlindazwe is a South African feminist lawyer and Waging Justice for Women Fellow with the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA). She supports the Women’s Socio-Economic Rights team with strategic litigation, feminist legal research, and gender-responsive advocacy. She is an admitted attorney of the High Court and holds an LLB from the University of Cape Town.

Siphokazi’s commitment to justice is rooted in her lived experience as a Black woman from a remote town in the Karoo, where she witnessed first-hand how constitutional rights, dignity, inequality, and gendered vulnerability are lived at the grassroots level. This grounding informs her feminist approach to law and her interest in contributing to legal strategies that reflect the lived realities of women.

She began her career at the Rhodes University Law Clinic, where she contributed to public legal education, supported the teaching of practical legal skills and represented clients across several areas, including family law, civil disputes, consumer matters, and socio-economic rights issues. She later worked as a Staff Attorney at ProBono.Org, coordinating legal support for vulnerable women and communities in housing, labour rights, refugee protection and deceased estates. At ProBono.Org, she also coordinated public legal education workshops and collaborated with community partners to surface gendered injustices at grassroots level and strengthen client support pathways.

Her areas of interest include feminist constitutionalism, gendered socio-economic rights, women’s access to land and housing, and interrogating the structural colonial apartheid legal legacies that shape inequality in South Africa.

Outside of work, Siphokazi finds joy in music, live concerts, and discovering new art, especially by Black women creatives. She unwinds through familiar sitcom re-watches, and enjoys small creative moments that brighten everyday life.
