ISLA at the 85th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights
The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) participated in a series of engagements during the 85th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) from 14-25 October 2025 in Banjul, The Gambia. These engagements included a closed strategy session on countering anti-rights actors, the Women’s Platform convening on feminist legal advocacy and analysis of the AU-CEVAWG, the Litigants Group General Meeting, and the SOGIE Working Group side event on advancing regional litigation. Across these spaces, ISLA and partners strengthened coordination, deepened feminist and decolonial analysis, and advanced collective strategies to safeguard the integrity of Africa’s human-rights architecture.

About Us
Founded in 2014, the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) is a Pan-African and feminist initiative with a timely remit: to strengthen strategic human rights litigation across the African continent. Essentially, we aim to change the way that strategic litigation is used so as to enable broader access to justice and to support those who seek to hold states accountable for violations of women’s human rights and sexual rights.
