Zinhle Hlatshwayo
Legal Associate
Zinhle is a BA (Law), LLB and LLM graduate from the University of Pretoria and is currently pursuing her LLD with the University of Johannesburg. Zinhle’s research is centred around the gender gaps that exist in international law and whether the existing laws are sufficient to protect women. Her research objective is to find ways to fill the gender gaps and to integrate gender perspectives into the law. In her previous role as a candidate attorney, she conducted extensive legal research for litigation matters in the South African Magistrates’ Court and High Court.
Zinhle’s career objectives are to develop feminist jurisprudence and to centre women’s voices in law. Through her research and her work, she hopes to challenge the laws that perpetuate the unequal position of women and contribute towards the continued development of female jurisprudence.
Zinhle joins ISLA as a Legal Associate where she will be responsible for assisting in the performance of projects under Knowledge Production and Capacity Strengthening. She hopes to use her research background in international human rights, international humanitarian law and socio-economic rights to contribute towards ISLA’s continued efforts to develop feminist jurisprudence
In her free time, Zinhle enjoys reading fictional novels and cooking for her family. She also has a strong desire to learn how to paint.
