Mai Aman
Legal Officer
Mai Aman is a lawyer and a human rights activist. She holds an LLB degree from the University of Khartoum and an LLM degree in Human rights and democratization in Africa from the University of Pretoria, she is currently pursuing her LLD in human rights from the same institution. She is also a licensed attorney in the Sudan.
Mai has over 6 years of experience in research, advocacy and project management. Before joining ISLA, she has worked with several human rights organisations such as Mutawinat Benevolent Company, the People’s Legal Aid Office (PLACE), the Human Rights Centre, University of Khartoum and the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria. She has demonstrated expertise in women’s rights, children’s rights, democracy and transitional justice. She also has a profound understanding of international law and the African Human Rights System its institutions, including the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, the African Court on Human and People’s Rights, and the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
At ISLA, Mai holds the position of legal officer focusing on strengthening accountability mechanisms on the continent.
Aside from work and research, Mai LOVES reading romance novels and enjoys outdoor activities, especially a good walk!
